DSU vs UNA

Another exciting game took place at DSU against long time rival University of North Alabama. Lots of exciting events, pep rallies, and most importantly, something known as Pig Pickin'.

The festivities began on Thursday with a pep rally for the football, on Friday there was a social at the Alumni house as well as an Alumni softball game, a barbecue competition (the winner then goes to Memphis for the best of the best barbecue competition), followed by live entertainment at Statesmen Park.

Saturday morning they held the 21st annual triathlon and one of the coaches wives competed in it (her first). We are so proud of you Leslie!! Eventually we got into the tailgating and football festivities. We all had such a great time at our first Pig Pickin'! Here are some pictures from the event...

The official DSU Mascot..

Both of the wonderful DSU mascots!

Here is Coach Staggs with our "Football Ops" guy during the pre game rally! We love Bullet!

Thanks to our friend Kimberly, Jameson got his own Fighting Okra!

Unfortunately, the Statesmen football team dropped the GSC opener to North Alabama 20-12. Our offense couldn't score when they needed to and our defense couldn't make a stop when they needed to.  Our team will continue to get better, they have a great group of coaches leading the way.
There will be a quick turnaround for the next game. DSU takes on Abilene Christian this coming Thursday for the first time on the football field. Kickoff is set for 630 pm. DSU is now 1-2 while Abilene Christian comes in at 2-2.

For those friends and family that are far away here is the link to watch the game:
